4.9.3 CPU Board
The CPU board contains processor, flash RAM, and system memory. The CPU board is not intended for end-user
access or service. For this reason, flash RAM and system memory can be upgraded only by qualified Cabletron
personnel.
%"¤›apm Attempts to access or remove the CPU board, its flash RAM, system memory,
or any other CPU board components will void your warranty.
4.9.4 Main Switch Module
The Main Switch Module (MSM) contains the main switching fabric of the SmartCell ZX-250 switch (see Figure 4-5).
The MSM is also one of the boards into which the I/O Modules (IOMs) are plugged. The MSM can support up to two
IOMs, each with four I/O ports. An additional two IOMs can be added to the ZX-250 by installing an Extended Switch
Module. The MSM is user-serviceable.
4.9.5 Extended Switch Module
The Extended Switch Module (ESM) provides the switch fabric to support an additional two IOMs (for a total of 15
ports). The IOMs plug into the top of the ESM and then the boards are slid into the ZX-250 chassis as a single unit.
The ESM is user serviceable (see Figure 4-5).
