ASCII
American Standard Code for Information Interchange. A standardized
coding system for assigning numeral codes to letters and symbols.
auto line feed
When this feature is selected in the default-setting mode, each
carriage-return code (CR) is automatically followed by a line-feed (LF)
code.
bidirectional printing
Printing in which the print head prints in both directions. This increases
the speed of printing.
buffer
The portion of the printer’s memory used to store data before printing it.
character table
A collection of letters, numbers, and symbols that provides you with the
characters used in a particular language.
characters per inch (cpi)
A measurement of the size of text characters.

standard characters. For example, condensed 10 cpi printing actually has
17 characters per inch. Useful for fitting wide table or spreadsheets onto
the paper.
continuous paper
Paper that has sprocket-feed holes on both long edges, is perforated
between pages, and is supplied in a folded stack. Also called fanfold
paper.
control code
Special codes used to control printer functions such (as a carriage return
or line feed) instead of printing characters.
cpi
See characters per inch.

See hex dump.
