Ethernet Link
The rear panel Ethernet connector on the switcher can be connected to the an Ethernet
LAN or WAN. This connection makes SIS control of the switcher possible using a computer
connected to the same LAN or WAN.
Ethernet Connection
The cable can be terminated as either a patch cable or a crossover cable (see figure 31) and
must be properly terminated for your application:
• Patch (straight) cable — Connection of the ISS to an Ethernet hub, router, or switcher
that also hosts a controlling computer
• Crossover cable — Direct connection between the ISS and a computer
A cable that is wired as T568A at one end
and T568B at the other (Tx and Rx pairs
reversed) is a "crossover" cable.
A cable that is wired the same at both ends is
called a "straight-through" cable, because
no pin/pair assignments are swapped.

Default Address
To access the switcher via the Ethernet port, you need the switcher’s IP address. If the
address has been changed to an address comprised of words and characters, the actual
numeric IP address can be determined
using the front panel (see “IP information“ on
page 29) or the Ping utility (see
Pinging to determine the switchers IP address” or
Pinging to determine the Web IP address” in the “Ethernet Connection” section on
page 74 for more details). If the address has not been changed, the factory-specified default
is 192.168.254.254.
