10.6 Walkie-Talkie
This feature allows cordless handsets to
communicate with each other directly when they
are in range of the same base unit (common
base station mode, group mode) and even when
outside the range of the base unit (group mode
only).
L Keep the front cover page open for button
locations.
Important:
L The maximum distance possible between
2 cordless handsets using Walkie-Talkie
is 300 metres outdoors. Actual
performance will vary depending on
usage conditions.
L When using Walkie-Talkie, talk time is
about 6 hours; standby time is about 15
hours. Actual performance will vary
depending on usage conditions. To
improve battery performance, turn OFF
the cordless handsets when not talking.
L Outside calls cannot be received while in
Walkie-Talkie mode.
10.6.1 Changing the Walkie-
Talkie mode
There are two Walkie-Talkie modes, common
base station and group.
Common base station mode: Communication
is possible between cordless handsets
registered to a common base unit. If the cordless
handsets are registered to more than one base
unit, the same base unit must be selected.
Group mode: Communication is possible
between cordless handsets that are both set to
Walkie-Talkie mode and have the same 3-digit
group ID. This allows cordless handsets to
communicate in Walkie-Talkie mode regardless
of which base unit they are registered to.
The default setting is group.
Important:
L When in common base station mode, the
cordless handsets cannot have Walkie-
Talkie conversations if the base unit
selection is set to “Auto” (page 81). Either
select a base unit number, or change the
Walkie-Talkie mode to “Group”.
1 Press $ (centre of joystick).
2 Select v, then press ,.
3 Select “Setting”, then press ,.
4 Select the desired mode, then press ,.
L If “Common” is selected, skip to step 7.
5 If “Group” is selected, enter a 3-digit group
ID, then press ,.
L The default ID is “000”.
6 Assign a cordless handset number (1–9) to
be used during Walkie-Talkie conversations,
then press , 2 times.
L This number is displayed on the cordless
handset only when using Walkie-Talkie. It
does not affect other operations.
7 Press {ih}.
Note:
L To set the Walkie-Talkie mode to common
base station mode, the cordless handset
must be within range of a base unit.
10.6.2 Turning Walkie-Talkie ON
1 Press $ (centre of joystick).
2 Select v, then press ,.
3 Select “On”, then press ,.
L The display changes to the Walkie-Talkie
display, and the cordless handset’s
Walkie-Talkie number is displayed.
Note:
L If a cordless handset is outside the range of a
base unit and the Walkie-Talkie mode is set
to common mode, Walkie-Talkie cannot be
turned ON.
L This feature is turned OFF when the cordless
handset is turned OFF.
Turning Walkie-Talkie OFF
1. Press * (centre of joystick).
2. Select “Off”, then press ,.
10.6.3 Starting Walkie-Talkie
conversations
Be sure to turn Walkie-Talkie ON beforehand on
both cordless handsets.
1 Press {C}, {s}, or {INT}, then the other
cordless handset’s Walkie-Talkie number.
L The other cordless handset will ring if it is
within range.
2 The other cordless handset user can answer
the call by pressing {C}, {s}, or {INT}.
3 When finished talking, press {ih}.
