Questions and Answers
This appendix includes common questions about the Smart Array 3200
Controller.
Q. How many Smart Array 3200 Controllers can I install in my system,
and how many internal and external drives?
A. The maximum number of Smart Array 3200 controllers that you can install
in your system depends on your server and several other factors specific to
your configuration. Generally, it will be the number of PCI slots not used
for other peripherals.
The maximum number of internal and external drives that you can install in
your system also depends upon your server and your choice of hard drives.
Each Smart Array 3200 Controller has two SCSI buses, and each bus can
support up to 15 drives.
Q. Does the Smart Array 3200 Controller support SCSI tape drives and
CD-ROM drives?
A. No; the Smart Array 3200 Controller only supports Wide-Ultra2 SCSI,
Wide-Ultra SCSI-3, Fast-Wide SCSI-2, and Fast SCSI-2 hard drives.
Q. I installed the hard drives in my server. Must I now terminate each
drive?
A. No; if you install hard drives in a server with a Smart Array 3200
Controller, all termination requirements are met by the controller and the
SCSI signal cable. Therefore, the individual drives should have termination
removed.
