COMPAQ CONFIDENTIAL - NEED TO KNOW REQUIRED
Q. I ordered my server with a pre-installed Smart Array 3200 Controller.
Will the server ship with the SCSI cable that I will need to connect to
my Compaq ProLiant Storage System?
A. No, you will not receive the external SCSI cable with your server.
However, the required cable is supplied with Compaq ProLiant Storage
systems.
Q. I do not have any hard drives in my server, but I am connecting it to a
Compaq ProLiant Storage System which has several hard drives.
Which SCSI port do I use?
A. If you have no hard drives installed in your server, you can connect the
Compaq ProLiant Storage System to either port.
CAUTION: Do not interchange these connectors after you
configure your Smart Array 3200 Controller. Interchanging the
connectors could result in a loss of your data.
If you have hard drives installed in your server and connected to the
Smart Array 3200 Controller, only one port will be available externally.
Q. I want to connect two Compaq ProLiant Storage Systems to my server.
Can I also connect the internal hard drives in my server to the Smart
Array 3200 Controller?
A. No. If you connect two ProLiant Storage Systems to your server, you
cannot connect any internal hard drives in your server to your Smart Array
3200 Controller because both SCSI ports will be used externally. You can
add an additional Smart Array 3200 Controller to your server to control any
internal drives.
Q. What must I do with Systems ROMPaq?
A. Run Systems ROMPaq to upgrade the firmware in your server to the latest
revisions prior to installing a Smart Array 3200 Controller in an existing
system. Otherwise, the system may not reboot if the Smart Array 3200
Controller is the primary controller.
