COMPAQ CONFIDENTIAL - NEED TO KNOW REQUIRED
Q. I have several hard drives in my server and in the Compaq ProLiant
Storage System. What SCSI IDs do I assign for these drives?
A. Each hard drive must have a unique SCSI ID for each controller port. If
your drives are installed in a Compaq ProLiant Server, a Rack-Mountable
Compaq ProLiant Server, a Compaq ProLiant Storage System, or a Rack-
Mountable Compaq ProLiant Storage System, the SCSI IDs are
automatically set according to the bay in which the drives are installed.
They do not need to be manually set.
If your drives are installed in a Compaq ProSignia, ProSignia 500,
ProSignia 300, ProSignia VS, or Systempro/XL, you must manually set the
SCSI ID jumpers.
Q. Should SCSI IDs in my system be consecutive?
A. No. It is no longer required that the IDs of devices on each SCSI bus be
consecutive. However, IDs must still be unique for each device on a single
SCSI bus.
CAUTION: Do not interchange SCSI IDs after you configure your
Smart Array 3200 Controller. Interchanging the SCSI IDs will result
in loss of data.
Q. I am planning to install several 2.1- 4.3- and 9.1-GB Fast-SCSI-2 Hard
Drives in my Compaq servers. Can I install one of these drives in any
drive bay?
A. In the ProLiant and ProSignia servers, you may install these drives in any
drive bay; they do not need to be installed in contiguous bays. In
Systempro/XL servers, the 2.1- 4.3- and 9.1-GB Fast-SCSI-2 Hard Drives
must only be placed in the four bays in the upper row.
