Configure
Link: Default Server
This feature allows you to:
Direct your Gateway to forward all externally initiated IP traffic (TCP and UDP protocols
only) to a default host on the LAN.
Enable it for certain situations:
– Where you cannot anticipate what port number or packet protocol an in-bound appli-
cation might use. For example, some network games select arbitrary port numbers
when a connection is opened.
– When you want all unsolicited traffic to go to a specific LAN host.
Configure for IP Passthrough.
Configure a Default Server. This feature allows you to direct unsolicited or non-
specific traffic to a designated LAN station. With NAT “On” in the Gateway, these packets
normally would be discarded.
For instance, this could be application traffic where you don’t know (in advance) the port or
protocol that will be used. Some game applications fit this profile.
Use the following steps to setup a NAT default server to receive this information:
1. Select the
Configure
toolbar button, then
Advanced
, then the
Default
Server
link.
2. From the pull-down menu, select
Default-Server
. The NAT Server IP
Address field appears.
3. Determine the IP address of the LAN computer you have chosen to
receive the unexpected or unknown traffic.
Enter this address in the NAT Server IP Address field.
4. Click the
Submit
button.
5. Click the
Alert
button.
6. Click the
Save and Restart
link to confirm.
