Remove the FEB
To remove the F
EB, follow this procedure (see Figure 28):
1. Place an electrostatic bag or antistatic mat on a flat, stable surface.
2. On the console or other management device connected to the Routing Engine, enter C LI
operational
mode and issue the following command to shut down the router software
cleanly and preserve Routing Engine s tate information.
user@host> request system halt
Wait until a message appears on the console confirming that the operating system
has halted.

3. Press the po
wer switch for both power supplies to the OFF ( 0)position.OnbothACand
DC power supplies, the switch is located on the power supply faceplate.
4. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist and connect
the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis. For more information about ESD, see
“Prevent E
lectrostatic Discharge Damage” on page 134.
5. Using a Phi
llips screwdriver, loosen and remove the five screws that secure the Routing
Engine cover to the FEB faceplate (the cover is shown in Figure 3). Pull the cover
straight off the Routing Engine. Save the screws.
6. Pull the ends of the ejector levers (located at each end of the unit) outward until they
are nearl
y perpendicular to the faceplate of the FEB.
7. Grasp the
ejector levers and pull firmly to slide the FEB about halfway out of the chassis.
8. Place on
e hand under the FEB to support it, slide it completely out of the c hassis, and
place it on the antistatic m at or in the electrostatic bag.
WhentheFEBisoutofthechassis,donotholditbytheejectorlevers.They
cannot
support its weight.
Do not stack the FEB on top of or under other components after removal.
Place it individually in an electrostatic bag or on its own antistatic mat on
a flat, stable surface.
