Installing System Upgrades
This chapter provides installation instructions for a variety of industry-
standard and NECC upgrades that you can add to your system.
Included in the chapter are procedures for
memory module upgrade
processor upgrade
expansion board installation
data storage device installation.
Most procedures require the removal of the system cover. Procedures for
removing the cover are included in this chapter.
General Rules
Follow these general rules when installing system upgrades.
Turn off system power and unplug the power cable.
Turn off and disconnect all peripherals from the front and rear of the
system.
When handling boards or chips, touch the system metal frame to
discharge static.
Do not disassemble parts other than those specified in the procedure.
All screws are Phillips-head unless otherwise specified.
Label any cable connectors before disconnecting. Note where the
connector goes and in what position it was installed.
Safety Precautions
Observe safety rules when working inside the system and when handling
computer components. Avoid electric shock or personal injury by
observing the following warning.
Before removing the system cover, turn off the
power and unplug the system power cable. Power is removed only when
the power cable is unplugged.
