MAINTENANCE
Essentially,your printer is a robust piece of equipment, but should be
treatedwithamodicumofcareinorderto avoidmalfimctions.Forexample:
Keepyourprinterin a “comfortable”environment.Roughlyspeaking,if
youarecomfortable,thentheenvironmentissuitableforyourprinter,too
(see Chapter1).
Do not subjectthe printerto physicalshocksor excessivevibration.
Avoidextremelydustyenvironments.Dustis theenemyof allprecision
mechanicaldevices.
To cleanthe exteriorof the printer,use a chothbarely dampenedwith
eitherwaterwithalittledetergentor alittlealcohol,butdonotallowany
liquidto fallinsidetheprinter.
Theintenoroftheprintermaybe cleanedwithasmallvacuumcleaneror
a compressed-airaerosol(sold for this purpose).Whenperformingthis
operation,be sure not to bend or damage any cable connectionsor
electroniccomponents.
REPLACING THE PRINT HEAD
Thisisnotajobwhichyouwillneedtodoveryoften.Theprintheadhasbeen
designedto last for about 100millioncharacters.Innormaleverydayuse,
thistranslatestoyearsoflife.130wever,iftheprintqualityisfaint,evenafter
youhavechangedtheribbonoryouhaveadjustedthegapbetweentheprint
headandthe platen(seeChapter1),theprintheadmay needreplacement.
Onlyuse a replacementprinthead as recommendedby yoursupplier.

Turn OFFthe printer,andunplugthepowercord.
Removethetop coverandribboncartridge.
Iftheprinterhasbeeninoperationimmediatelybeforethisoperation,the
print head will be hot. Allow time for the print head to cool before
attempingto workon it.
Movethe printhead carriagetowardthe center,and removethecolor
ribbonholderon thecarriage.
CAUTION: Donot lose the springinsidetheholder.
Unscrewthe two screwsthatholdthe printhead in placeandset them
aside.
