3-34 Installation and Replacement
Installing Flash and CMEM
Method 2
This is the cleanest way to accomplish the upgrade to an 8MEG flash SIMM and is
the preferred method.
Downgrade from
6.2 With 8MEG
SIMM to 6.1 or
Earlier
This can be done, but because you cannot mix bootproms and releases with the
presence of an 8MEG flash SIMM (please refer to the “Rules and Upgrade/
Downgrade procedures and considerations” section on page 3-33) you must:
3 Power down the node and install the 8MEG flash SIMM. Power up
the node. The node will come up, both flash banks will show "0"
bytes and the CMEM will be cleared.
4 Use Vanguide only to download 6.2 image.
5 Download your saved CMEM.
Step Description
Step Description
1 Save CMEM.
(Testing has shown that the CMEM will be not be affected using this
procedure, however it is always recommended that you save CMEM
before any maintenance operation)
2 The 6455 is starting with 5.1 bootprom, 6.1 image and 4MEG flash.
Install the 8MEG flash SIMM. Power up the node and copy or load a
6.1 image into the new flash bank.
3 Use Vanguide to upgrade the node to 6.2, this will also upgrade the
bootprom.
Insure that the node was accessible via CTP so that Vanguide can detect
the bootprom version.
4 Completed! The node will be upgraded to 6.2 (both image and
bootprom) with the CMEM intact.
Step Description
1 Save CMEM, then power down and remove the 8MEG SIMM.
2 Manually downgrade the bootprom to 5.1 (or earlier). Use the zap
command and force coldload and send down the single file, example:
"cougar_bootprom_cldr.xrc"
3 Coldload a 6.1 image.
4 If desired, you may reinstall the 8MEG flash SIMM and use normally.
