6. Shut down the desktop Macintosh and any other SCSI
devices in the chain.
7. Change conflicting ID numbers if necessary.
8. Connect the other end of the adapter cable to the
desktop Macintosh, or to the end of the SCSI chain.
The illustrations in the section “Connecting Your Computer as
a SCSI Disk” show the proper cables and terminator
placement.
9. Press the power button on the back of the PowerBook
to turn it back on.
10. Turn on any other SCSI devices in the chain.
11. Turn on the desktop Macintosh.
You can now reinstall system software on the hard disk in your
PowerBook. Use the system software disks that came with your
PowerBook, or with a system software upgrade kit designed to
work with your PowerBook. (The disks that came with your
desktop Macintosh, or any other Macintosh, may not be the
correct version.)
Drawing battery power in SCSI disk mode
Your PowerBook continues to draw battery power when you use it
as a SCSI disk. Low battery power is indicated by the appearance
of a blinking low-power warning on the PowerBook’s screen.
If you see this warning while using your computer as a SCSI disk,
either plug in the power adapter or quit SCSI disk mode,
as described in the next section, so you can remove the battery
for recharging. If you wait until the computer goes to sleep
automatically, you may lose information.
Important: Do not attempt to change batteries while your
computer is in SCSI disk mode.
