NOOK User Guide Lending eBooks 134
Borrowing an eBook on a NOOK
This section is written from the viewpoint of you receiving a notification about a lending
oer. It applies equally to others with registered NOOKs receiving lending oers.
Rules
Here are some rules regarding borrowing eBooks from your NOOK:
• You can only borrow on a registered NOOK.
• The Barnes & Noble online account to which your NOOK is registered must have a default
credit card and billing information defined.
• You can borrow an eBook from anywhere with supported wireless connectivity (including Wi-Fi
hotspots outside of the United States, U.S. territories, and Canada)
• You can borrow an eBook for which you have a free sample.
• You cannot borrow an eBook that you already own.
Notification that Lending Oer Will Expire Soon
If a friend oers to lend you a book, you receive a lending oer notification among the notifications
in The Daily. You have seven calendar days to accept or decline the oer. At the beginning of the
seventh day, you receive a warning that the lending oer will expire today At the beginning of the
eighth calendar day, the lending oer expires.
When viewing a lending oer notification, Yes, Borrow This and No, Thank You are choices in the
menus. You do not need to navigate to the original lending oer notification.
Expiration of a Lending Oer
If you receive a lending oer and neither accept nor decline the oer before the end of the seventh
calendar day, the oer expires. The notification remains in The daily, but it cannot be accepted or
declined. You receive an additional notification informing you that the lending oer has expired.
Declining a Lending Oer
When you receive a lending oer on your NOOK, you can accept the oer and borrow the eBook,
or you can decline the oer.
Why decline a lending oer if it will expire automatically after 7 days? Because until you
decline the oer or it expires, your friend cannot read the eBook or make the lending oer
to someone else.
