Attention: Because the Hardware Management Console of the DR550 is not
connected to a local area network, you cannot use all electronic problem reporting
methods of a normal HMC. Hence you have to be careful when reading HMC
documentation or setting up your HMC.
The following networking connections are available for you to be able to take advantage of
electronic services such as reporting hardware problems and other server information:
Connection between the Hardware Management Console and the IBM eServer p5 520
server(s)
The DR550 is shipped with a dedicated connection between the console and the IBM
eServer p5 520 server(s). There is one direct connected Ethernet adapter in the HMC for
each IBM eServer p5 520 server.
Connection between your company and your service provider.
This connection is the one that enables you to report hardware problems and other server
information to your service provider. In case of the DR550, the connection is established
through a local modem attached to the Hardware Management Console.
The next sections describe how to set up your server to use the service tools for your operating
environment:
Setting up your HMC to connect to your service provider
You must set up your HMC service environment with the following procedure:
1. Log in to the HMC of your DR550 with the user hscroot. You will find the starting point for all the
configuration tasks in the Navigation Area of the HMC, under Service Applications.
2. Choosing the local modem as your connection method:
Use the Remote Support application on the HMC to specify the kind of connection (local modem)
you want to use. To specify this information, follow these steps on your HMC:
a. In the Navigation Area, open Service Applications.
