Glossary
RTP (RealRTP (Real--time time TTransport Protocolransport Protocol))
An Internet protocol sending real-time data such as audio and video. Although RTP itself does not
guarantee real-time transmission, transmission application programs provide devices for streaming
data support. In general, RTP works on UDP protocol.
Slow Start Slow Start
A type of H.323 signaling. It exchanges all information through a connection at the Q931 connec-
tion stage, and connects to H.245 followed by a media connection.
Subnet MasSubnet Maskk
32-bit address mask used in IP to indicate the bits of an IP Address that are being used for the
subnet address. Sometimes referred to simply as mask.
Trivial File Transfer ProtocolTrivial File Transfer Protocol ((TFTPTFTP))
A simpler version of File Transfer Protocol (FTP) that uses UDP (User Datagram Protocol)
rather than TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) for data transport. It is easier to program than
FTP but lacks directory and authentication services. It is often used to allow diskless workstations
to boot over the network.
Type oType of Servicef Service ((TOSTOS))
TOS parameters consist of three bits, which are used to set services on Delay, Throughput and Re-
liability.
