UU--law law
One of two algorithms used in telephony to logarithmically compress or expand digitized speech.
U-law is used in North America and Japan. A-law is the algorithm used in European networks.
Wink StartWink Start
A type of trunk signaling. When the PBX at the sending end seizes a trunk line a call is initiated.
The receiving end maintains its Off-Hook status for a short period (150-300ms, and 250ms on av-
erage) after being ready to receive call data until it becomes On-Hook. When the sending end
sends dialing related signals call information is delivered to a subscriber at the receiving end.
When the subscriber lifts the handset (Off-Hook) the call line is connected. When either party of
the telephone call replaces the handset (On-Hook), the call is terminated.
