NOOK User Guide Audio 159
Audio
Listen to your favorite music while reading, or while doing other things with your NOOK, such as
browsing your library or shopping. You can also listen to audiobooks, podcasts, or any other MP3
or OGG files.
Open the audio player by tapping audio on the Home menu:
audio
You can also tap Open Audio Player in the top-level menus of the Reader.
Speaker and Headphones
You could listen on your NOOK’s built-in speaker, but we suggest you use a headset (not included)
for audio quality and to not disturb those around you.
You can use any headphones or earphones with your NOOK that have a mini jack (3.5 mm) plug.
This is the standard size for music players and personal computers.
Supported File Types
The audio player supports two file types:
MP3: Audio files that use the MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 digital audio encoding format. Any MP3
file can be played, irrespective of its sampling frequency and bit rate.
OGG: Audio files that use the Ogg Vorbis compression format.
Audio streaming is not supported.
Managing Audio Files
You manage audio files on your NOOK through its USB connection to a personal computer. For
more information, see “Files and Folders” on page 163.
