Reading
This section explains the features available when reading an eBook or periodical chosen from your
library. For information about reading eBooks when in Barnes & Noble Bookstores, see “Read in
Stores” on page 88.
To resume reading, tap reading now on the Home menu:
reading now
When you tap reading now, you are returned to the last read page in the eBook or periodical that
you were reading last on your NOOK, even if you have turned your NOOK o since you were last
reading.
Supported File Formats
Your NOOK supports digital reading content (for example, eBooks and periodicals) in the following
formats:
ePub, including DRM-secured files and files without DRM
PDB, including DRM-secured files and files without DRM
PDF, including password-secured files and files that are not secured
Orientation
The reading orientation is vertical (often called portrait orientation). You hold the reader upright,
and text is displayed in lines across the reading screen.
PDF documents can support rotated pages, though this is not common and not especially useful
for eBooks. In such a PDF, one or more pages (and possibly an entire document) can have pages
that have been rotated 90 degrees clockwise, 90 degrees counterclockwise, or 180 degrees. Your
NOOK doesn’t exactly support such documents, but it tries. It does not rotate the text but does
rotate any graphics.
