NOOK User Guide Files and Folders 165
Use the file manager on your personal computer to manage personal files on your NOOK.
If you put personal files in the correct locations in the internal memory, then the content
will be found. If you put personal files anywhere else, they will be on your NOOK, but your
NOOK will not find them. For more information, see “One Drive or Two” on page 157 and
“Where You Can Put Files” on page 163.
To manage personal files and folders on your NOOK:
1 Connect your NOOK to your personal computer using USB, as explained in “Connecting your
NOOK to your Computer” on page 155.
2 Using a file manager, manage the files and folders. Copy files from your computer to your
NOOK, or from your NOOK to your computer, or move or delete files, or manage folders, in
the same manner as you would manage files on your computer.
3 When you have finished managing files, eject your NOOK.
To copy files to a new microSD card:
1 Use a file explorer to copy or move files from the old microSD card to your personal computer.
2 Insert the new microSD card in your NOOK. For this procedure, see “Changing microSD Cards”
on page 169.
3 Copy or move the files to the new microSD card in your NOOK. Copying is a better idea than
moving, because you have backup copies.
4 After you have verified that the copy operation succeeded, you could delete unneeded files.
Keep a Copy of Your Personal Files
Electronic storage media sometimes fail to preserve your files. They encounter magnetic fields that
are too feisty, get dropped from boats into lakes, and get stolen. It is a good idea to keep copies of
the personal files on your NOOK on your computer.
Regarding your B&N content in the My B&N Library part of your library, if you lose copies
on your NOOK, you can retrieve them from your online digital library. You can also back
them up yourself on your personal computer. If you copy them back to your NOOK, place
them in the my documents folder or on a supplemental microSD card. They will appear
in the My Documents section of your library.
