Fabric Card Chassis Airflow and Cooling Requirements
Two M6 or equivalent hex head bolts and locking washers (nickel-plated brass is ideal). These bolts,
locking washers, and nuts are not available from Cisco Systems; they are available from any
commercial hardware vendor.
Grounding wire. Although we recommend at least 6-AWG multistrand copper wire, the actual wire
diameter and length depend on your router location and site environment. This wire is not available
from Cisco Systems; it is available from any commercial cable vendor.

Chassis Cooling Overview
This section describes the cooling system of the Cisco CRS-1 Fabric Card Chassis and provides
information about the cooling requirements needed to operate the chassis. It contains the following
sections:
The fabric card chassis cooling system provides cooling for chassis components. The cooling system is
made up of:
Two fan trays, with nine fans in each tray
Two shelf controller cards that control the fans
An air filter, which is located above the lower fan tray
The shelf controller cards monitor the temperature in the chassis. As the temperature in the chassis rises,
the shelf controllers increase the fan speed to provide proper cooling for the chassis.
