This guide is for anyone who must plan the facilities for the site where a multishelf system is to be
installed. It should be used with Cisco Systems site planning coordinators and site inspectors, well in
advance of the delivery of the routing system.
Document Organization
This guide contains the following chapters and appendixes:
• Chapter 1, “Cisco CRS-1 16-Slot Multishelf System Overview,” provides an overview of the
multishelf system and its main components.
• Chapter 2, “16-Slot Fabric Card Chassis Installation Site Requirements,” describes the site planning
considerations for the 16-slot fabric card chassis.
• Chapter 3, “Multishelf System Planning,” provides information about the general issues to consider
as you plan your multishelf system.
• Chapter 4, “General Site Planning Considerations,” describes the site planning considerations for
the installation site.
• Appendix A, “Multishelf System Product IDs,” provides information about how to order the
Cisco CRS-1 Multishelf System components.
• Appendix B, “Specifications,” provides pointers to the technical, environmental, and safety and
compliance specifications for the Cisco CRS-1 Multishelf System.

chassis and the multishelf system.
