Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System 16-Slot Multishelf System Site Planning Guide
OL-7422-04
Preface
This site planning guide describes how to plan and prepare your site facilities for the installation of a
Cisco CRS-1 16-Slot Multishelf System. The guide provides a brief description of the system and its
components, basic site facilities requirements, and specifications.
Throughout the remainder of this guide, the following core chassis acronyms are used:
16-Slot Multishelf System (MSS)
16-Slot Fabric Card Chassis (FCC)
16-Slot Line Card Chassis (LCC)
Catalyst 6509 Switch (Cat6509)
The multishelf system is made up of two LCCs and up to four FCCs. This guide describes the site
planning considerations for the FCC and the MSS. This includes floor space, weight requirements,
receiving and staging, and pre-installation information to help you plan the site where the system will
be installed.
The installation of a multishelf system may require space, floor loading, power, and cooling
modifications to a facility; therefore, you should plan the site well in advance of the scheduled delivery
of the system.
Note Detailed specifications for the LCC, such as power, cooling, and environmental specifications, are
described in the Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System 16-Slot Line Card Chassis Site Planning Guide.
