When the upgrade completes, you will only need to restore the user
libraries, folders and files, plus the other SSP files on your target system. If
the upgrade is unsuccessful, to recover you will need to restore all the saved
data.
Note: The Transition Aid Feature provides an easy way to move the user
environment from your source to your target system. IBM
recommends that you use this feature for your libraries, folders, files,
and other SSP files.
For information about saving the data and the Transition Aid Feature, see
Operating Your Computer-SSP Operating System, SC21-8297-01.
__ 3. Contact your hardware service representative for the hardware portion of
the upgrade. Your hardware service representative will do the following:
a. Move the disk units from the source to target system.
b. Install the Licensed Internal Code.
When the hardware service representative installs the Licensed Internal
Code, the representative should select the Install Licensed Internal Code
and initialize the system option from the Install Licensed Internal Code
(LIC) display.
__ 4. Refer to the book Software Installation, SC41-5120-04, for instructions about
how to install the IBM Operating System/400
®
Version 3 (OS/400) operating
system.
Note: When you install the OS/400 operating system, remember to install
the licensed programs.
__ 5. For instructions about how to create the Adv36 machine, refer to steps 1
through 8 in Path E: Installing an SSP on an AS/400 System in the
Installation Tasks and Checklists appendix in theAS/400 Advanced 36
Planning and Reference Handbook, SA21-9656-01.
__ 6. Restore the saved libraries, folders, and files to the Adv36 machine. Refer to
the Operating Your Computer-SSP Operating System, for information about

Note: If you do not use the Transition Aid Feature to restore your user
environment, restore the user libraries, folders, and files, and then the
other SSP files, in that order.
__ 7. Refer to the Getting SSP and OS/400 Installed and Running, SC21-8377-01, for
information about how to save the data from your target system.
Migrating from a Model 436
The migration from a Model 436 to a Model 7xx depends on the release of
Licensed Internal Code you have installed on your current system.
If you do not know which release of the Licensed Internal Code you have
installed, type DSPSYS on the command line and press the Enter key. The Display
System Status display appears. You can find the version and release of the licensed
internal code under the Release heading. The following are some examples of
what you might see.
