Performing Tests
Insertion Loss Measurement
This utility measures the loss associated with RF cables, filters, and other passive
devices in the measurement path. This test uses the Test Set internal source and
measures the relative loss through the cable or device. This utility sends no control
commands to the MSC.
To optimize measurement accuracy, the measurement setup uses two external 6-dB
attenuators (pads) and a short calibration cable. The pads are optional, but should be
used if available. These parts are not standard equipment with the Test Set, but are
included in the optional accessory kit (see “Optional Accessory Kits” on page 17).
Parameters and Specifications Used
The following parameters and specifications are used when running this test. See
Chapter 5, “Reference,” on page 95 for descriptions of the parameters and specifications.

Select and Run the Test
Select and run the Insertion Loss Measurement as follows:
Step 1. From the Lucent AMPS Test Main Menu screen, select the Calibration/Utilities
field. The Test Software will display the Calibration/Utilities Menu screen.
Step 2. Select the Insertion Loss Measurement field.
Step 3. If the Test Software determines that channel power must be calibrated before testing, it
will display a prompt directing you to disconnect all cables from the Test Set. Disconnect
any cables, and press the
k1 (Proceed) key.
