PC Software Loader
The GE Fanuc Series 90-30 Ethernet Interface has its operating firmware stored in
FLASH memory as opposed to EPROMS. Firmware upgrades for this board are
provided on floppy disk. The PC Software Loader utility controls downloading the new
firmware from the floppy to the FLASH memory. This utility requires an IBM AT/PC
compatible computer with at least 640K RAM, one 3.5 inch floppy drive, MS-DOS 3.3 (or
higher), and one RS-232 serial port. This utility functions optimally with a hard drive
with at least 1 Mbyte available space.
To install the new firmware, perform the following steps.
1. Stop the PLC CPU. This will allow any existing channels to be terminated gracefully.
2. Hold the Reset button on the Series 90-30 Ethernet Interface until the bottom LED
(STAT) turns ON. Upon releasing the button, diagnostics are run and then all 4
LEDs will blink in unison. This signifies that the Interface is in the Software Loader
state.
3. Connect the serial port of your computer to the Software Loader Port of the
Ethernet Interface with the cable assembly shown below. You must use a port
marked “COM1” or “COM2”. See Appendix B for more information.
