Assigning the character data
Now,wecalculatetheverticalnumericalvaluesof thecolumnsof dots,and
enterthem underneaththe grid.Eachverticalcolumn(whichhas a maxi-
mumof24 dots)is firstdividedintothreegroups(ortwo groupsfor super/
subscripts)ofeightdots.Eachgroupofeightdotsisrepresentedbyonebyte,
whichconsistsof eightbits.
Thisiswherethenumbersdowntheleftsideofthegridcomein.Noticethat
thereis a numberfor each rowof dots and that each numberis twicethe
numberbelowit.Bymakingthesenumberspowersoftwowecantakeany
combinationof dotsin a verticalcolumnand assignthcma uniquevalue.
