chromadatastreams.OnedatastreamcontainsYsamplesandtheotherstreamcontainsmultiplexedCb
andCrsamplesco-sitedwitheveryotherluminancesample.TheYsamplesarereadfromtheYFIFO
andtheCbandCrsamplesarereadfromtheCbandCrFIFOsandcombinedonthechromaoutput.
TheY/CdisplaymodecangenerateHDTVstandardoutputsuchasBT.1120,SMPTE260,orSMPTE296
withembeddedEAVandSAVcodes.Itcanalsooutputseparatecontrolsignals.
Because16bitsareusedfordataoutput,theY/Coutputmoderequiresbothhalvesofthevideoportdata
bus.IftheDCHDISbitinVPCTLisset,thenY/Cmodecannotbeselected.
TheEAVandSAVembeddedtimingcodesareidenticaltothoseoutputinBT.656modeandtimingis
controlledinthesamemanner.InY/Cmode,however,thecodesmustbeoutputonboththeYandC
datastreams(VDOUT[9-2]andVDOUT[19-12]).AnexampleofBT.1120linetimingisshownin

ThetimebetweentheEAVandSAVcodeoneachlinerepresentsthehorizontalblankinginterval.During
thistime,thevideoportoutputsthedigitalvideoblankingvalues.Thesevaluesare10hforluma(Y)
samplesand80hforchroma(Cb/Cr)samples.Thesevaluesarealsooutputduringtheactivelineperiod
ofverticalblanking(betweenSAVandEAVwhenV=1),unlessreplacedbyVBIdata.Inaddition,ifthe
DVENbitinVDCTLis0,theblankingvaluesareoutputduringtheportionofactivevideolinesthatarenot
apartofthedisplayedimage.
ManyofthestandardssupportedbytheY/Cdisplaymodeprovideforbothinterlacedandprogressive
scanformats.Forinterlaceddisplay,thedisplaycontrolsareprogrammedidenticallytoBT.656mode.For
progressivescanformats,theframesizeisprogrammedtothesizeofasinglefieldandonlyfield1is
used.
TheY/CdisplaymodeusesthesameFIFOorganizationastheBT.656displaymodeandgenerates
EDMAeventsinthesamemanner.
