Media type Considerations
To avoid problems when using preprinted forms, embossed paper, and letterhead, observe the
following guidelines:
Use preprinted forms and letterhead paper that have been printed by offset lithography or
engraving.
When the form is preprinted, be careful not to change the moisture content of the paper, and do
not use materials that change the paper's electrical or handling properties. Seal the forms in
moisture-proof wrap to prevent moisture changes during storage.
NOTE To print a single-page cover letter on letterhead, followed by a multiple-page
document, feed the letterhead face up in tray 1, and load the standard paper into one of the
other trays. The device automatically prints from tray 1 first.
Vellum Vellum is special lightweight paper similar to parchment.
Print vellum from tray 1 only.
Do not print on both sides of vellum.
NOTE From the printer driver, set the type of paper for tray 1 to vellum or light, and select
the media by type.
Colored paper Colored paper should be of the same high quality as white xerographic paper.
HP LaserJet Tough
paper
Use only HP LaserJet Tough paper. HP products are designed to work together for optimum
printing results.
Handle HP LaserJet Tough paper by the edges. Oils from your fingers can cause print-quality
problems.
Recycled paper This device supports recycled paper. Recycled paper must meet the same specifications as standard
paper. See the HP LaserJet Printer Family Print Media Guide. Hewlett-Packard recommends that
recycled paper contain no more than 5% ground wood.
