Glossary
path In a network, any route between any two ports.
persistent binding A form of server-level access control that uses configuration
information to bind a server to a specific Fibre Channel storage
volume (or logical device) using a unit number.
point-to-point A Fibre Channel topology which involves a dedicated link that
connects only two stations. See also arbitrated loop.
port Receptacle on a device to which a cable leading to another device can
be attached.
port name Name that the user assigns to a particular port through the Product
Manager.
POST See power-on self-test.
power-on self-test Series of self-tests executed each time the unit is booted or reset.
preferred domain ID Domain ID that a switch is assigned by the principal switch in a
switched fabric. The preferred domain ID becomes the active domain
ID except when configured otherwise by the user.

Collected problems after early ship of an IBM product.
principal switch In a multiswitch fabric, the switch that allocates domain IDs to itself
and to all other switches in the fabric. There is always one principal
switch in a fabric. If a switch is not connected to any other switches, it
acts as its own principal switch.
product manager Application that implements the management user interface for the
switch.
product name User-configurable identifier assigned to a managed product.
Typically, this name is stored on the product itself. For the switch, the
product name can also be accessed by an SNMP manager as the
system name.
protocol A standard procedure for regulating data transmission between
computers.
PSP bucket See preventive service planning bucket.
