Glossary
SNMP management
station
An SNMP workstation console used to oversee the SNMP network.
SSP See system services processor.
status bar This bar, located below the navigation control panel, displays a status
symbol that indicates the current state of the switch.
storage area network A high-performance data communications environment that
interconnects computing and storage resources so that the resources
can be effectively shared and consolidated.
subnet mask A method of representing the portion of the IP network address that
is devoted to subnet addresses (as opposed to the portions of the
address that refer to individual hosts or to the organizational network
overall).
switchover Changing a backup FRU to the Active state, and the active FRU to the
Backup state.
switch priority Value configured into each switch in a fabric that determines its
relative likelihood of becoming the fabrics principal switch.
system services
processor
Controls the RS-232 maintenance port and the Ethernet port of a Fibre
Channel switch.

topology Logical and/or physical arrangement of stations on a network.
trap Unsolicited notification of an event originating from a SNMP
managed device and directed to an SNMP network management
station.
trap host SNMP management workstation that is configured to receive traps.
trunk cable Cable consisting of multiple fiber pairs that do not directly attach to
an active device. This cable usually exists between distribution panels
and can be located within, or external to, a building. Contrast with
jumper cable.
