Disassembly and Re-assembly of
the PowerEdge 1550
Goals
The following are the goals for this exercise.
• Disassemble the PowerEdge 1550 to the FRU level.
• Recognize the FRUs for the PowerEdge 1550.
• Recognize the FRU replacement dependencies of the PowerEdge 1550.
• Reassemble the PowerEdge 1550 to the point of ready to power up.
Description
This section provides the information required for disassembly and re-
assembly of the PowerEdge 1550. It enumerates the necessary tools and
provides a list of parts that can be replaced. Then it provides instructions
for removal of all the field replaceable units (FRU) and then addresses the
specific issues relevant to re-assembly of the PowerEdge 1550. More
detailed instructions for disassembling each component are available in
the technical documentation and/or on Dell’s web site.
Tools/Aids/Materials
The following tools/aids/materials are required to disassemble and re-
assemble the system.
• Flat Blade screw driver.
• Electro-static discharge wrist strap.
Disassembly/Re-assembly Overview
The procedures in this section are organized in a manner that allows a
technician to locate instructions on removing a part. Replacing a part, as
advised in the reassembly section, is the reverse procedure of removing a
part. Included in the instructions for part removal is a list of dependencies
to that task. This makes the procedures more manageable and advises the
technician what tasks must be done in preparation for part removal.
