The processor speeds supported by the chip are 100 MHz and 133 MHz.
The PowerEdge 1550 is only shipped with processors that support 133
MHz.
The memory bus works with SDRAM at 100 MHz or 133 MHz. The
speed of the memory needs to be the same as the processor external speed
so it will ship with 133 MHz SDRAM. The CNB20HE-SL will support
up to eight (8) 256-Mbit devices for a total of 16 GB of RAM however,
the system only has four DIMM sockets and is sold with up to 512 MB
DIMMS so it is supported with a maximum of 2 GB of memory. The
system will support up to 4 GB with 1 GB DIMMS. The system should
also work with 2 GB DIMMs but this could not be tested at the time of
writing.
The interface from the CNB20HE-Sl to the CIOB20 operates at 133 MHz.
It also supports up to a 4X AGP bus. The ATI Rage XL is an AGP 2X
device however. The PowerEdge 1550 does not have an AGP slot for an
after market video card.
The CIOB20 is the I/O controller for the PCI bus. It supports two 64-bit
PCI busses that can operate up to 66 MHz. The implementation in the
PowerEdge 1550 supports one 64-bit 66 MHz bus and one 32-bit 33 MHz
bus.
The onboard AIC-7899 SCSI controller and the two PCI slots reside on
the 64-bit 66 MHz bus while the two Intel 82559 NIC interfaces reside on
the 32-bit 33 MHz bus.
The OSB4 resides on 32-bit 33 MHz bus also. The OSB4 has interfaces
for the USB, E-IDE, and ISA busses.
The only device on the ISA bus is the Super I/O controller that provides
support for legacy I/O such as keyboard, mouse, serial, parallel, and
floppy disk controller.
Onboard Video
The video chip is built on the Rage Pro core and has features that can be
exploited by 3D software. The features include:
A 1.2 million-triangle/sec set-up engine.
Single-pass trilinear filtering.
Six (6) perspectively correct texturing modes.
Video texturing.
Gouraud and specular shading.
3D special effects.
