Replacing the Battery
1 Remove the main tray as described in Removing the Main Tray Assembly
earlier in this chapter.
2 Note the orientation of the battery. Make sure that you put the new battery in
place with the positive (+) side facing in the same direction.
3 Lift the clip and slip the battery out of its holder, as shown in Figure 42.

4 Insert the new battery in the same orientation as the old one. (Only use HP part
number 1420-0314 or equivalent.)
NOTICE: If you cannot gain access to the battery, you may need to remove an option
board. Refer to Installing an EISA or GSC Option Board earlier in this
chapter for information on accessing the option boards.
CAUTION: Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with
the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer.

5 Follow the instructions in Replacing the Main Tray Assembly earlier in this chap-
ter to close and restart the system.
