When do I replace them?
for more information about print quality problems that
may be caused by worn out photoconductors.
When you need to install new photoconductors, refer to
the installation instructions that come with the photocon-
ductors. Each time you replace the black photoconductor,
be sure you also replace the fuser coating roll.
After you replace the photoconductors and close the
printer’s top cover, the printer synchronizes the four pho-
toconductors to correct the color registration. This adjust-
ment may take up to 90 seconds, depending on the printer
settings you have chosen.
Fuser coating roll
The fuser coating roll lubricates the hot roll with oil. It
installs under the printer’s rear cover.
To avoid damage to the fuser, replace the fuser coating roll
each time you replace the black photoconductor. Refer to
the installation instructions that come with the fuser coat-
ing roll in the black photoconductor kit.
With certain types of printing, you may experience print
quality problems that indicate you need to replace the
fuser coating roll before it’s time to replace the black pho-
toconductor. For example, if you repeatedly print the same
images or fine line patterns or if you experience jams in
the fuser, you may eventually notice toner specks on the
front of the page or incomplete ghost images.
See “Identifying other problems” on page 109 for more
information about related print quality problems. See
page 89 for information about ordering a fuser coating roll
separate from the black photoconductor kit.
