You can also create internal shortcuts for clients within the same switch (or same
module) but on different ELANs. Figure 3-4 shows how you can create a
connection between PC 1 and PC 2 without having to leave the switch.

Virtual Circuit Multiplexing
When MPC 2 sends an IP response after receiving the data packet in Figure 3-2 on
page 3-8, it does not use the same shortcut automatically. MPC 2 must go through
the same recognition and address resolution process that MPC 1 did in order to
establish a shortcut. After the same route is discovered by MPC 2, it will send a
resolution request to the MPS; if a shortcut already exists between the two points,
MPC 2 can share that VC.
