Terminology and Concepts
This chapter presents the terminology related to the features that are supported by
SpeedView, the Centillion 50/100 and Model 5000BH switches, and LAN
emulation, as well as concepts and examples of how the Centillion 50/100 and

Terminology
The following section introduces the concepts and terminology used in this guide
including LAN emulation terms, signaling protocols, and port types.
LAN Emulation Basics
This section defines ATM LAN emulation terminology as it applies to the
Centillion and Model 5000BH switch platforms.
LAN emulation (LANE) refers to the services and protocols defined in the ATM
Forum LAN Emulation Version 1.0 and 2.0 specifications. LANE Version 2.0 is
divided into two specifications: LANE User-to-Network Interface (LUNI 2.0) and
LANE Network-to-Network Interface (LNNI 2.0).
