However, the IISP procedure also checks the IISP interface link table
(Table 5-4) for link group assignments.
The call request was received on slot 3, port 1 (IISP link 5), which is assigned to
link group 1; therefore, the IISP procedure does not forward the call over IISP
link 6 or back on link 5 because link 5 and link 6 are assigned to link group 1.
In this case, the call request is dropped as it should be, and the system returns a
message of “no route to destination.”
Notice that the Model 5000BH switch routing table does not contain an entry for
a route to switch 3 through switch 1. The reason is that if such a route did exist,
the call might be circulated in an endless loop. One possible loop path might exist
solely over IISP link 3. Another possible loop might develop between Model
5000BH switch 1 and switch 2.
You can avoid causing loops by simply not providing routes. But if you need to
design your network to have redundant routes, check that there are no potential
loops. Also, minimize the assignment of links to link groups. Using a link group
assignment incorrectly can result in a call request not being forwarded.
