Signaling over Nonzero Virtual Ports (Associated Signaling)
In WAN applications, many WAN switches use VP0 for signaling messages,
which requires the ATM LAN switches in the network to signal over nonzero
virtual ports. On a per port basis, the ATM LAN switch must signal on different
virtual ports to establish virtual channels through the WAN to multiple LAN
switches that sit behind the WAN. Centillion 50/100 and Model 5000BH switches
implement multiple signaling stacks on a single physical port by allowing
signaling on nonzero virtual ports as shown in Figure 1-18
.
