MPOA in an ATM Network
893-01006-C
3-11
The letters A through T represent 20 LECs that are representative of their
respective Ethernet ports (A through T). Client A represents an IP client in the IP
subnet A that is attached to the EtherSpeed port A.
If an MPOA flow is detected between clients A and K, the MPOA resolution
process occurs, and a shortcut will be set up as SVC 1. All unicast IP traffic that is
destined from A to K is sent across SVC 1. However, all unicast IP traffic that is
destined from K to A will continue to be sent across the default path through the
default gateway of client K until the MPC that represents K detects a flow and
initiates the address resolution process.
After the flow has been detected from K to A, client K begins sharing SVC 1.
No new SVC is set up. To take this one step further, suppose that a flow is detected
from P to F. Because each slot in the switch is seen as one unique ATM address,
client P recognizes that there is a circuit already established between the two
switches. Therefore, P can also use SVC 1.
Table 3-1
represents the SVCs that can be used for the various flows possible in
Figure 3-5.
