NOTE The POST error messages may reflect which modules are defective and should be
replaced.
2. Review the Troubleshooting Checklist before you continue.
3. Power the Server off and on (instead of using Ctrl-Alt-Del).
Powering the server off and on is a more complete system reset.
4. If POST reports a problem, check the error against the Error Messages and correct the problem.
Refer to Chapter 5, "Error Messages.”
5. Verify the embedded video is configured correctly.
6. Verify the DIMMs are all of the same (specified) speed.
7. Verify the DIMMs are installed and configured correctly:
a. Make sure only HP-supported DIMMs are used.
b. Remove the questionable DIMM and install a known good DIMM, and reboot.
c. If you still receive an error, replace the system board.
d. If the error goes away, add another DIMM and reboot again.
e. Continue this process until you have installed all of the DIMMs or you experience a failure.
f. Replace the defective DIMM(s).
8. Remove one accessory board at a time and reboot the Server, to verify the problem.
9. Once a suspected part has been found, verify it is the problem by reinstalling the part and duplicating the
error.
Power Problems
Symptoms:
A fan is not working
The power LED does not light
1. Review the Troubleshooting Checklist before you continue.
2. Verify the AC power source is good:
a. If the Server fans are audible or a control panel light is on, the power is on.
b. Verify the circuit breaker for the AC power outlet.
c. If the breaker was off, verify all devices connected the Server share the same circuit breaker and are
the only devices on it.
d. Reset the circuit breaker after reconfiguring the devices, if need be.
e. Verify the AC power outlet is not faulty by plugging in a known-good device.
f. Have a qualified electrician verify the third-wire ground is isolated from other grounds and is at
ground potential.
3. Verify all cable connections:
o AC power cord from AC source outlet to Server.
o DC Power supply cable to system board
o DC Power supply cables to all mass storage devices, including the flexible disk drive
4. If the fans (system, power supply, and processor heatsink) aren't audible and the above steps are
verified, verify power is getting to all fans.
