Chapter 9 Remove/Replace Procedures

WARNING The power supply will continue to provide standby current to the HP Server until the
power cord is disconnected from the AC power source.
4. Lay the Server on its side (components showing).
5. Disconnect the cooling fan power cable from the connector on the system board.
6. Remove the heatsink by:
a. Unhooking the thumb latch on the heatsink and lifting the heatsink up slightly from the processor.

b. Rotate the heatsink away from the processor toward the rear of the Server, releasing the hook latch.
You may still need to disconnect the hook latch to completely remove it from the processor base.
7. Lift the heatsink away from the processor and out of the Server.
Removing the Processor
1. If you have not removed the heatsink-cooling fan assembly, do so now before continuing.
CAUTION Wear a wrist-strap and use a static-dissipating work surface connected to the chassis
when handling components. Ensure the metal of the wrist-strap contacts your skin
2. Open the ZIF lever completely to allow removal of the processor.
