Initialize and Format LUNs
After you set up initiator access to the LUN group, you must initialize and format each LUN in
the LUN group.
For more information about setting up initiator access, see Set Up Initiator Access on
page 116.
The following procedure uses the Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator, which is freely available
online and is integrated in Windows 7.
Note: If you use an operating system other than Windows, the steps are
different, but the basic tasks remain the same.
To initialize and format LUNs in the LUN group:
1. Open the Windows Disk Management application.
Each LUN in the LUN group displays as an unallocated disk that needs to be initialized
and formatted.
Tip: If the disks do not display
, select Action > Refresh in the Disk
Management window.
2. Initialize unallocated disks:
a. Select an unallocated disk by clicking it.
b. In the Disk Management window
, select Action > All Tasks > Initialize Disk.
