PEAP (Protected EAP)
This protocol is suitable for performing secure authentication against Win-
dows domains and directory services. It is comparable to EAP-TTLS (see
page 385), both in its method of operation and its security, though not as
flexible. This does not support the range of inside-the-tunnel authentica-
tion methods supported by EAP-TTLS. Microsoft and Cisco both support
this protocol.
Use “PEAP” to configure the use of PEAP as an authentication protocol
and to select “Open,” “WPA,” or “Network EAP” as an association mode.
To Enable PEAP with an Open Association
1 Set 8021x Security as “PEAP.”
2 Set Association to “Open.”
3 Skip Encryption as it is automatically set to “WEP.” See page 372 f or
information about WEP encryption.
4 Enter your unique user name and password to use this protocol. Select
Prompt for password to have the user enter this password each time to
access the protocol; or leave Use fo llo wing password as selected to auto-
matically use the protocol without entering a password.
5 Tap Get Certificates to obtain or import serv er certificates. See page
388 for more information.
6 Tap Additional Settings to assign an inner PEAP authentication and set
options for server certificate validation and tru st. See page 381 for more
information.
