REFERENCE INFORMATION FOR ADDING DEVICES
The dialog boxes for adding devices contain instructions for completing the entry fields. If you need further assistance, refer to the field
definitions provided below.
ADD A CAMERA
General Information
Name: Enter a camera name (up to 64 characters). This name can contain letters, numbers, and symbols.
Location: Enter a description of the camera location, such as “Parking Lot B” (up to 255 characters). This text is
displayed in the title bar of the video display window when the camera is selected.
Description: Enter any other relevant information, such as the camera serial number or specific communications
settings (up to 255 characters).
Camera Capabilities
Pan, Tilt, Zoom, Focus, Iris: Select the appropriate options that the camera provides. Leave all options unchecked for fixed cameras.
Presets: If your camera stores preset positions, check this option.
Auxiliary Contacts: Check this option if your camera has options such as a wiper blade or lamps that require operator control.
Positional Feedback: This is reserved for future use.
Control Commands
Coaxial Cable: Check this option if both video data and control data are sent to and from the camera along the same
coaxial cable, through either a switcher or a multiplexer.
Switcher Serial Port: Check this option if the camera’s control data is to be sent serially through a matrix switcher or
multiplexer.
PC Serial Port (or Modem): Check this option if the camera’s control data will be sent serially (such as with RS-232) from the VMX210
or through the Ethernet COM port.
Make and Model
This dialog box appears only when you add a camera that is controlled serially through the VMX210 communications port.
Manufacturer: Select Pelco.
Model: Select the appropriate camera model.
Camera Addressing
Cameras that are controlled serially through the VMX210 communications port or a switcher control port must be addressed to ensure proper
communication with the system.
Automatic Addressing: Select this option if the cameras are controlled by Coaxitron. If the cameras are controlled by D or P
protocol, you can use automatic addressing provided the camera addresses match the switcher input
numbers (camera 1 to input 1, and so on). Automatic addressing assigns the camera an address that is the
same as the logical number of the switching device node that it is connected to. If physical/logical
mapping has been applied to the switching device, then the camera’s address will be taken from the
logical number of the input port instead of the physical port number. If the camera is connected to multiple
switching devices, the camera’s address will be taken from the first node it is connected to.
Manual Addressing: Enter an address number corresponding to the address (DIP switch setting) on the camera. If more than
one camera is installed on the same serial line (such as in a daisy-chain configuration from the VMX210
serial port), each camera must have a unique address. Changes in switcher physical/logical mapping have
no effect on communications with manually addressed cameras.
Preset Capacity
Number of Presets: Enter the number of camera presets, if the camera supports presets.
Auxiliary Contacts
Number of Auxiliary Contacts: Enter the number of auxiliary contacts in the camera, if applicable.
