Chapter 13 Configuring VLANs, VTP, and VMPS
VLAN Trunking Protocol
Note When VTP is disabled, you can enter VLAN configuration commands in configuration mode instead of
the VLAN database mode and the VLAN configuration is stored in the startup configuration file.

Switch# configure terminal
Switch(config)# vtp mode server
Setting device to VTP SERVER mode.
Switch(config)# vtp domain Lab_Network
Setting VTP domain name to Lab_Network
Switch(config)# end
Switch#
This example shows how to configure the switch as a VTP client:
Switch# configure terminal
Switch(config)# vtp mode client
Setting device to VTP CLIENT mode.
Switch(config)# end
Switch#
This example shows how to disable VTP on the switch:
Switch# configure terminal
Switch(config)# vtp mode transparent
Setting device to VTP TRANSPARENT mode.
Switch(config)# end
Switch#
This example shows how to disable VTP on the switch and to disable VTP advertisement forwarding:
Switch# configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Switch(config)# vtp mode off
Setting device to VTP OFF mode.
Switch(config)# end
Switch#
This example shows an example of the VTP configuration parameters when the device is running VTP
