Answering the Telephone
If the telephone rings just once:
A fax is coming in. Do not pick up the handset.
If the telephone rings continuously:
1. Pick up the handset and speak to the other party.
If you hear a high-pitched tone, a fax is coming in.
Press Start then hang up.
2. If the caller wants to send you a fax, press Start after speaking. Then hang up.
If nothing happens after you press Start the power may be switched off or the
telephone may not be properly connected.
Phoning and Faxing on the Same Call
To Talk Before Sending a Fax (On Hook Dial)
1. Press the On Hook Dial key.
2. Dial.
NOTE: Do not use the handset.
Do not press Start.

3. If you hear a voice from the machine’s built-in speaker, pick up the handset and
speak to the other party.
❐ If you hear a high-pitched tone instead of a voice, place your fax message in the feeder, then press
Start.
4. When you are ready to send your fax message, place your message in the
feeder, then ask the other party to press Start.
5. When you hear a high-pitched tone, press Start.
