StandbyMode
TheStandbyTimeoutfieldinSystemSetupenablesyoutospecifythe
timeperiodthatthecomputercanremainidle(nouserinputordisk
activity)beforethecomputerentersstandbymode.Youcandisable
thisoptionbyselectingOff,oryoucanspecifyaStandbyTimeoutdelay
timeoffrom1to16minutes.
Instandbymode,thesystemandvideomemoryandthevideo
controllerslowdown.TheLCDbacklight,harddrive,floppydrive,PC
Cardcontroller,andsomeotherdevicesturnofftosaveenergy.DPMS
(aformofmonitorpowermanagement)toanexternalmonitoris
invoked.
Toresumefromstandby,touchthetouchpad.Donotpressanykeyson
yourkeyboard.
Ifyoupressakeytoresumefromstandby,your
computerwillrecognizethefunctionofthekey
youpressedandperformthatfunction.For
example,ifyoupress<N>andadocumentis
open,an
“n”
istypedintoyourdocument.
Ifyouenablebothstandbyandsuspendmodes,yourcomputerenters
standbywhenthedelaytimeyouchoseforstandbyhaselapsed,and
thenenterssuspendmodewhenthedelaytimeyouchoseforsuspend
modehaselapsed.
SuspendMode
TheSuspendTimeoutfieldinSystemSetupenablesyoutospecifythe
timeperiodthecomputercanremainidle(nouserinputordevice
activity)beforethecomputerenterssuspendmode.Youcandisable
thisoptionbyselectingOff,oryoucanspecifyaSuspendTimeout
delaytimeoffrom5to60minutes.
