DETAILED STEPS
Note An enable secret password can contain from 1to25 alphanumeric characters in uppercase and
lowercase.
An enable password can contain any number of alphanumeric characters in uppercase and
lowercase.
A number cannot be the first character.
Spaces are valid password characters; for example, two words is a valid password.
Leading spaces are ignored. Trailing spaces are recognized.
Alphanumeric characters are recognized as uppercase or lowercase.
Passwords should be different for maximum security. If you enter the same password for both during the
setup script, the system accepts it, but you receive a warning message indicating that you should enter a
different password.
Recovering Passwords on the Cisco uBR7200 Series
This section describes how to recover a lost enable or console login password and how to replace a lost
enable secret password on your Cisco uBR7200 series router.
Command or Action Purpose
Step1
At the EXEC prompt, enter one of the following two
commands to set password protection:
enable secret password
or
enable password
Example:
Router> enable secret cisco
These command differ in their security level.
enable secret password Enters a very secure,
encrypted password.
enable password Enters a less secure, nonencrypted
password.

To gain access to privilege EXEd-level commands,
enter the desired password.
