Motherboard
TO REMOVE THE MOTHERBOARD
NOTE: This procedure assumes that you have already performed the procedure “To
remove boards and cables from the motherboard” on page 4-24.
1. If you are replacing the motherboard with a new motherboard, remove the following
from the motherboard:
DIMM(s) (page 4-35)
CPU (page 4-36)
2. Slide the DVD drive a few inches out of the front of the chassis
(see Figure 4-29 on page 4-52).
You need to move the DVD drive to provide clearance for removing the motherboard.
3. Remove the 10 mounting screws securing the motherboard to the chassis
(for screw locations, see Figure 4-15 on page 4-23).
4. Remove the motherboard from the chassis.
Lift the edge of the motherboard (see Figure 4-16). Make sure the back panel connectors
on the motherboard clear the chassis while lifting it out of the chassis. Do not touch the
contacts and avoid using excessive force.
